This transformative experience empowers students to be changemakers in the fashion/textile industry, helping to create a more sustainable and ethical future for fashion, while also respecting the unique culture and heritage of South Africa.

_____

This course consists of 2.5 weeks of field studies in the South African textile regions of Cape Town, Prince Albert, and Gqeberha/Port Elizabeth. Students will gain the knowledge and skills to source materials sustainably and ethically. We look closely at the farm-to-fabric process of mohair production, from Angora goat husbandry to sustainable processing methods. Learn the cultural significance of mohair in South Africa and its role in the global fashion industry. After completing this class, you will be one of the few who have fully explored the benefits of using South African textiles for apparel, which will help advance your career in fashion.
